VOICES NEEDED FOR CANCER CHOIR

Bolton Cancer Voices, the North West’s inspirational Choir for cancer patients and cancer survivor’s continues to gain in strength and confidence, embracing new and exciting challenges and bearing testimony to the determination of its members to live life to the full whatever their personal circumstances.

With their next appearance at Bolton Food and Drink Festival in just under 3 weeks, they’ve cooked up a delectable menu to entertain the crowds and already have dates in their diary for 2015.

The Choir, which recently celebrated its second birthday, is currently appealing for new members: the only criterion for membership is that you must be a cancer patient at any stage in your cancer journey or a cancer survivor, regardless of the time elapsed since your diagnosis. The Choir accepts people from any geographical area as long as they can get to the centre of Bolton for rehearsals: and to ensure the Choir is accessible to all no singing experience is necessary; you don’t need to be able to read music; there are no auditions and no fees to worry about. If you enjoy singing, want to have some fun – not to mention plenty of lots of laughs – then Bolton Cancer Voices would love to meet you.

Karen Elliott, Chair of Bolton Cancer Voices said:

‘We have a really exciting and challenging period ahead and want as many people as possible to share in this wonderful time.

Not only is singing a great pastime but Bolton Cancer Voices provides a unique forum to meet with others in a similar situation and benefit from mutual support and understanding. There are no less than 14 individual tumour types represented in the Choir, with recent analysis showing that a third of members joined within 12 months of receiving their diagnosis – the shortest period being 2 weeks post diagnosis and the longest 55 years.

Taking up a new hobby when you’ve just been diagnosed with cancer or know yourself to be living with cancer as a life-limiting condition may be the last thing you’ve considered but why not just come along and give it a try? The Choir has a really positive outlook and enjoyment is at the heart of all we do: though cancer brings us together it doesn’t define who we are or what we do.’

The Choir meets on Monday evenings 7.30pm-9pm at the Friends Meeting House, Silverwell Street, Bolton.
