GUILDED SUPPORT FOR CANCER CHOIR
Date Posted: 17-03-2016
Tottington Townswomen’s Guild has presented a cheque for £1000 to Bolton Cancer Voices after a successful year of fundraising for the North West’s first dedicated Choir for cancer patients and cancer survivors.
Formed in June 2012, Bolton Cancer Voices is open to everyone, anywhere, who has received a cancer diagnosis of any type, at any time. The Choir provides a weekly opportunity to do something fun and therapeutic in an environment that appreciates the limitations cancer and its treatment may impose.
Karen Elliott, Chair of Bolton Cancer Voices said: –
‘We are indebted to all the ladies of the Guild, who have taken the Choir to heart and worked so hard to raise this tremendous sum for us.
This is only the second time we have benefitted from being an organization’s nominated cause of the year and we consider ourselves hugely privileged to have been considered worthy of such support.
We don’t charge membership fees to ensure the Choir is accessible to all and avoid placing additional monetary burden on people who may already be experiencing financial pressures due to the effects of their illness or treatment: therefore we rely on various forms of fundraising to realize the monies necessary to both meet our annual running costs and ensure we continue to develop and provide inspirational opportunities for our members.
The more ambitious our plans become the greater our costs increase but to us no price can be put on the benefits our members derive from their involvement in Bolton Cancer Voices.’
In 2015 the Choir undertook six concerts / appearances, two workshops and a number of promotional and social events. Their first concert of 2016 will see them take to the stage at the Theatre Royal, Ramsbottom, as guests of the Square Street Singers on Saturday, 2nd April. Tickets are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/summerseatplayers priced £7-00 (plus booking fee,) or on the door.
The Choir welcomes new members all year round: for more information visit their website – www.boltoncancervoices.org.uk or call Karen on 01204 595562 / 07773 164235.
